Manhattan has won two of its last three contests and is coming off a 65-58 victory at Fordham on Thursday at Rose Hill Gym. The Jaspers are averaging 63.3 points during this stretch with senior guard George Beamon leading with way with 19.3 points per game.
Beamon scored 29 points in the home opener leading to a 67-56 victory over Hofstra on Nov. 21. It was his first game back after missing games at Louisville and Harvard with an injury. The 6'4" wing from Roslyn, N.Y. is shooting 54.3% from the field and leads Manhattan with an 85% (17-20) free-throw percentage.
The Jaspers have owned the glass over the last three contests (35.7 rpg to 27.7 rpg). In their two wins, the Jaspers hold a +26 rebounding advantage.
Junior point guard Michael Alvarado is coming off his top performance of the season, which earned him the Mike Cohen Most Valuable Player award of the 105th 'Battle of the Bronx'. Alvarado finished with game-high 19 points as he knocked down 10-of-12 free-throw attempts. He is also averaging double-figures in the scoring column with 11.6 points per game in five appearances. Alvarado is tied with sophomore forward Emmy Andujar for the team lead with 2.4 assists per game.
Rhamel Brown and Roberto Colonette have anchored the Jaspers post production. Brown is averaging 9.8 points per game and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest in five starts. Brown, a 6'7" junior forward from Brooklyn, also leads Manhattan with a 61.8% (21-34) field goal shooting percentage. Colonette has been effective on the interior averaging 4.2 points and 4.6 rebounds over 22.4 minutes per game.
Manhattan leads the MAAC in rebounding margin (+3.8). The Jaspers are third in the conference for defensive rebounding percentage (69.2%).
George Washington (3-3)
The Colonials have also won two of their last three games, which includes wins over Hofstra and James Madison. George Washington is led by senior forward Isaiah Armwood who tops the team in scoring (11.5) and rebounding (8.5). Armwood, is a 6'9" 210-pound transfer from Villanova, who has started all six games and is second on squad with a 51.8% field goal percentage.
Senior guard Lasan Kromah is also averaging double-figures with 10.8 points per game. He leads George Washington shooting 59.2% from the field.
George Washington is coming off a 54-53 road win at James Madison on Wednesday. Kromah scored 10 points, while freshman forward Kevin Larsen posted 12 points and 10 rebounds and freshman guard Joe McDonald contributed another 12 points to the victory.
The Colonials have outrebounded opponents 38.0 to 33.0 this season. They are averaging 63.8 points per game and shooting 45.3% as a team.
