RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan suffered its sixth one goal loss of the season Sunday falling 1-0 to Loyola (7-4-3, 3-1 MAAC) in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Gaelic Park. Greyhounds' sophomore forward Julia Hajjar scored her first goal of the year in the 28th minute after a feed from senior Kelsey Donohue to knock off Manhattan (4-7, 1-2 MAAC).
The Jaspers were forced to handle a lively offensive attack of Loyola for the majority of the match. The Greyhounds owned a 27-6 shot advantage and led Manhattan 12-1 in corner kicks.
With 27:45 on the clock, Loyola broke the scoreless tie when Donohue created a prime scoring opportunity for Hajjar. Donohue worked the left side of the goal and sent a pass that slipped through the Jaspers' defense finding its way to Hajjar in front of the net. She hammered it home as Donohue was credited with her second assist this season.
Manhattan tested Loyola goalkeeper Didi Haracic by placing five of its six shot attempts on net. The Jaspers best scoring opportunity came in the 36th minute when junior forward Janie Schlauder made a run up the right side breaking free of the Greyhounds' defense. She pushed the ball ahead to freshman forward Emily Ude who made a sliding shot attempt, but Haracic charged the ball and managed to deflect it.
Haracic came up with five saves en route to her third shutout. Jaspers' senior goalkeeper Kara Davis played all 90 minutes and made a season-high nine saves.
The Jaspers are on the road for their next two matches as they make the Western New York conference swing. Manhattan visits Niagara on Friday and travels to Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
