RIVERDALE, N.Y. - What began as a back and forth affair at Riverdale Country Day School, turned in to a dominant effort by Saint Peter's as they would win eight of eleven total events en route to a 104-98 victory over the Manhattan Men's Swim team on Friday night.

Both teams traded wins in the first two events with PJ Sweeney capturing the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.46, almost a full five seconds faster than his closest opponent. That would give the Jaspers a slim 19-16 lead through the first two events, but the Peacocks would go on to win eight in a row to increase their advantage.

Manhattan would narrowly miss out on a victory in the 50 yard free as Ryan Klages lost to Saint Peter's Peter Jiminez by mere tenths of a second (23.03 to 23.22). Another close call would come in the 200 yard Individual Medley as Mike Mackay finished with a time of 2:06.59, falling to Vuk Simon Fio Mladjenovic by 0.28 seconds.

The Jaspers would be unable to find a win until the Peacocks had already clinched the overall victory. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Dennis Daly was able to beat out two of his own teammates for the win while the team of Klages, Michael Scire, Mickey Ruddy, and Robert Varieur combined for a victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Manhattan men's swimming (11-6) concludes their meet season tomorrow when they host NJIT at 1:45 pm. Prior to the met, the Jaspers will honor their three seniors in Robert Kehoe, and women's swimmers Bridget Latino and Mary Kate O'Leary.
