Bulldogs Slip Past Women's Soccer

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
Junior goalkeeper Kara Davis did all she could to keep Bryant (1-1-1) scoreless by posting a career-high 17 saves, but in the 81st minute the Bulldogs slipped in the decisive goal in Manhattan's 1-0 setback. Bulldogs' sophomore Ari Goldberg triggered the corner kick that senior midfielder Stephanie Morse headed home for the game winner.

Manhattan (0-2) was stormed with Bryant's 37 shots and 11 corner kicks in a match that was rescheduled due to Hurricane Irene last weekend. Bulldogs' goalkeepers Lauren Viverito and Kelsi Jacob combined for the shutout with three saves.

Davis stopped 10 of the Bulldogs' 17 shots on goal in the first half to carry Manhattan into the break in a scoreless tie. She was able to steer away six of Bryant's 14 shots in the second half, before conceding the game winner with less than nine minutes to go.

The Jaspers' offense made a slight push after Bryant took its lead with a pair of scoring opportunities in the 88th minute. Manhattan freshman Kiersten McGarty sent a desperation shot attempt on goal that was saved by Viverito, and then junior Allison Pfeiffer's corner kick attempt came up empty.

Manhattan looks to rebound when it returns to Riverdale for the home opener next Friday against Fordham. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
