RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
The Manhattan women's soccer team could not recover from a two goal first half deficit as the Jaspers fell to Fairleigh Dickinson 2-1 on Sunday in Teaneck, N.J. Jaspers' senior forward Megan Lavecchia scored the seventh goal of her career in the 49th minute. Fairleigh Dickinson freshman midfielder Kasey Schiavoni scored her first career goal in the 38th minute, which proved to be the game winner.

Fairleigh Dickinson (2-2-1) jumped on Manhattan (1-3-0) early scoring first 6:10 into the match with the goal coming off the foot of sophomore forward Lindzy Williams. Knights' seniors Rashidah Sherman and Maureen O'Connell assisted on the play with Sherman providing the cross in front of the net for Williams to tap in.

Schiavoni extended Fairleigh Dickinson's lead to 2-0 with 37:01 on the clock. She worked her way into the box and found the back of the net on a cross goal shot, placing it in the far right corner.

Jaspers' junior goalkeeper Kara Davis recorded three of her five saves in the first period facing 10 shots. Fairleigh Dickinson outshot Manhattan 17-5 in the match, while Knights' goalkeeper Sage Dovale earned credit for the victory finishing with two saves.

Manhattan made an offensive push out of halftime by scoring just 3:35 into the second period with Lavecchia's goal to get within 2-1. Jaspers' sophomore Martine Diamond assisted the play with a free kick that found Lavecchia in front of the net for the easy goal.

The Jaspers missed on a couple game-tying attempts with less than seven minutes remaining. Manhattan sophomore forward Lexi Kearns fired a shot on goal that Dovale came up with the save in the 84th minute, and then a corner kick by Jaspers' junior midfielder Allison Pfeiffer was off the mark.

Manhattan returns to action on Friday when the Jaspers take on Sacred Heart at Gaelic Park. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be the second half of a Manhattan soccer doubleheader. The Manhattan men will play their first home game of the season beginning at 4 p.m. against St. Francis (NY).
