RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Four different players found the back of the net but the Manhattan women's lacrosse team was unable to stop the Golden Griffins from doing the same in a 19-5 loss to Canisius Friday night at the Demske Sports Complex.

Senior Julia Lavelle. junior Elizabeth Dugan, and freshmen Maria Toscano and Carly Eskenazi each tallied for the Lady Jaspers (3-6, 0-2 MAAC) but it was Golden Griffins' (7-3, 1-0 MAAC) attacker Carly Quinn who stole the show, tying a record with eight goals and adding an assist for a game-high nine points.

Facing one of the toughest Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents on the road, Manhattan gave up seven goals in the opening 10 minutes and 12 in the first period to fall behind 12-0 at the break. Quinn and teammate Lindsey Morgan did most of the damage for Canisius, combining for seven goals in the opening frame and 11 total in the contest.

In the second period, the Lady Jaspers stormed back, scoring three of the first four goals to cut the deficit. Lavelle got the Lady Jaspers started with her 11th goal of the year at the 28:06 mark of the final period. After another tally by the Golden Griffins, Dugan and Eskenazi would record back-to-back tallies to make it 13-3 with 21:36 remaining in the game. However, it was a night for the home team as Canisius scored six of the final eight goals to prove victorious and pickup their first conference victory.

In the cage, Allison Daley made six saves in picking up the win. For Manhattan sophomore Julia DiBernardo recorded seven saves in the defeat.

Overall, Canisus held advantages over the Lady Jaspers in shots (33-12), ground balls (20-9), draw controls (15-11) and turnovers (12-17).

The Lady Jaspers look to get back on the winning side of things Sunday, when they head to Niagara, N.Y. to take on the Purple Eagles. First draw is set for noon.
