RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College Men's swimming team will have their hands full the weekend before Thanksgiving as they compete in three meets in as many days. The Jaspers (7-3) will host Baruch University on Fri., Nov. 18 before welcoming in St. Francis (NY) on Sat., Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. with both meets taking place at Riverdale Country Day School. Following their two home meets, the men will then travel to Newark, N.J. to take on the Highlanders on NJIT on Sunday.
There will be plenty of momentum for Manhattan, who is coming of it's first ever victory over Fairfield last Saturday. The win was a thrilling one that came down to the final two events. With the Jaspers leading the Stags 86-82 going in to the 100 meter breaststroke, Dennis Daly took first while Mike Mackay and Chris Parker placed third and fourth giving Manhattan 14 team points in the event to take a 100-87 lead. This forced Fairfield to finish 1-2 in the 200 freestyle relay to force a draw. However, two Jasper teams finished second and third respectively to secure a 106-98 team victory.
Other victories for Manhattan included Daly teaming with Cullen Balcanoff, Scott Isaacs, and Robert Varieur to win the 100 medley relay. PJ Sweeney was also a winner placing first in the 1000 meter freestyle while Varieur captured the 50 and 100 meter free. Balcanoff took home another top finish with a victory in the 100 meter backstroke event.
After this weekend, the Jaspers will have almost two weeks off for the holiday break before returning to action against Saint Peter's and Montclair State on Fri., Dec. 9 in Jersey City, N.J.
