RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision to Loyola (6-11-1, 4-3-1 MAAC) on Friday in Baltimore, Md. Playing without injured junior goalkeeper Kara Davis, who led the MAAC in saves (127) entering the match, the Jaspers could not recover from Loyola's five-goal surge in the first half. Junior forward Nichole Schiro scored Loyola's first three goals as the Greyhounds ran past Manhattan (3-12-2, 1-4-1 MAAC).
Schiro put Loyola on the scoreboard first in the ninth minute when she buried a shot into the left side off a free kick assisted by Greyhounds' back Lauren Norcia. Schiro struck for the second time in the match in the 24th minute when she finished a cross in front of the net, it proved to be the game winner. Then in the 26th minute Schiro capitalized on a rebound in front of the net to notch the hat trick and her team leading 10th goal of the season.
Manhattan's lone goal came with 26 minutes on the clock when senior forward Devon Lutz put one in off a quick restart, finishing in the left side of the net. It was her fourth goal of the season.
Tessa McClenahan and Joie McLaughlin scored their first goals of the season before intermission to send Loyola into the break with a 5-1 advantage. The Greyhounds outshot Manhattan 11-3 in the first half and 20-8 in the match.
The Greyhounds tacked on their last goal 25 seconds before the final horn when sophomore midfielder Deja Walker chipped one over Jaspers' goalkeeper Maria Sanzari.
Manhattan will play its final match of the 2011 campaign on Sunday at Rider. Kick off is slated for 1 p.m.
