RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Junior goalkeeper Kara Davis posted eight saves to help Manhattan (2-9-2, 9, 0-4-1 MAAC) secure a scoreless tie with Fairfield (3-6-4, 1-2-1 MAAC) on Friday at Gaelic Park. Davis came up with five saves in overtime to notch her second shutout of the season and 10th of her career.
The Jaspers' defensive unit, anchored by senior back Claire Reinhard and junior Nicole Landes, began their stellar performance in the first half without yielding a shot on goal to Fairfield. Manhattan and Fairfield each had three corner kicks in the first half, but neither team could capitalize on the opportunities.
Manhattan kept up with Fairfield's up-tempo offense in the second stanza. Davis was forced to make three saves in the final 45 minutes of regulation to send the contest into overtime. Manhattan fired all four of its shots in the second half with junior forward Kayla Howden being the only Jasper to test Fairfield goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau. Boudreau came up with her only save of the contest in the 59th minute to preserve the scoreless tie.
Fairfield put the pressure on the Manhattan defense in the second half, but the Jaspers held strong. Davis came up with five saves in overtime to ensure the Jaspers snapped their five game skid. Three of Davis' saves came in the final six minutes of the match.
Manhattan returns to action on Sunday when the Jaspers host Iona on Senior Night. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
