RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team dropped its second straight MAAC contest on Sunday falling 2-0 to Marist (6-6-0, 2-0-0 MAAC) at Gaelic Park. The Red Foxes struck for two goals within a three minute span in the second half coming off the feet of sophomores Jaclynn Sabia and Jackie Frey.
Lady Jaspers' goalkeeper Kara Davis tied a season high by stopping 11 of Marist's 32 shots. At the opposite end of the field, Red Foxes' goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini posted her sixth shutout of the year after recording three saves in the contest.
Manhattan's defensive lapse began in the 79th minute when Sabia took advantage of an unsettled situation in front of the net. The Wayne, N.J. native gained control of a loose ball in the box and pushed it around the charging Davis. In the 81st minute, Frey extended Marist's lead when she finished on a feed from senior Merrilynn Esteve.
Manhattan (2-8-1, 0-2-0 MAAC) returns to action on Friday when the Lady Jaspers visit Fairfield for a 7 p.m. match. The Lady Jaspers complete the brief two game road stint on Sunday at Iona.
