RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team could not hold on to its one goal halftime advantage as the Lady Jaspers' fell 3-1 to Siena (8-1, 2-0 MAAC) in Loudonville, N.Y. on Sunday. The Saints used two second half goals from freshman Caitlin Cahalan to earn their eighth straight win. Lady Jaspers' senior forward Alexandra Konneker scored Manhattan's (4-6, 0-2 MAAC) lone goal in the 16th minute, marking her second goal of the season.
"Have to give a lot of credit to Siena for making plays in the second half," stated Manhattan fifth year head coach Sean Driscoll. "We let the lead slip away and did not play to our potential."
Manhattan freshman goalkeeper Kara Davis gave the Lady Jaspers a boost in the 15th minute when she made a highlight reel one-handed, diving save blocking Saints' junior midfielder Cara Riley's penalty kick to preserve the scoreless tie. Siena was awarded the free kick after the Lady Jaspers were called for a hand ball in the box.
One and a half minutes later, Konneker gave the Lady Jaspers a 1-0 advantage when the senior from Newtown, Conn. sent a header past Saints' goalkeeper Laura Ettinger. Senior midfielder Courtney McMahon recorded the assist, her team leading fourth assist this season.
In the 53rd minute, Cahalan evened the game at 1-1 when she sent a header inside the right post off a corner kick from Riley. Then less than one minute after Manhattan missed an open goal breakaway opportunity, Cahalan tallied the game winner with 63:16 on the clock when she placed a sliding shot into the back of the net. The goal was Cahalan's team leading seventh of the year.
The Lady Jaspers' had an opportunity to tie the game at two in the 75th minute, but senior back Jill Beauchamp's header off a corner kick ricocheted off the crossbar. Siena would tag on an insurance goal in the 85th minute off the foot of Lindsay Tegas to secure the win.
Ettinger improved to 5-1 in goal for the Saints after recording three saves in the match. On the other end of the field, Davis made two saves in a complete game effort.
Siena held a 7-3 corner kick advantage over the Lady Jaspers', while Manhattan was called on 14 fouls to the Saints' 7.
