RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Jamal Barney scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace Loyola's 58-54 MAAC win over Manhattan Friday night before a nationally televised audience on ESPNU at Draddy Gymnasium.  Chris Smith scored seven of his team-high 11 points in the first half for the Jaspers.

Loyola (7-12, 2-5) made 9-19 3-pointers, including 6-12 in the second half and the Jaspers shot just 1-12 from distance.

Another key stat was free throw shooting.  Manhattan (9-8, 3-4) got to the line 29 times, but converted just 13 of those attempts.  Loyola didn't fare much better.  The Greyhounds made 9-16 tries after entering the game ranked eighth nationally in free throw shooting and tops in the MAAC.

Manhattan led 24-22 at the break despite scoring its second fewest points in a half this season.  The Jaspers held Loyola to just 33% from the field in the first half.

Manhattan led for the 4:07 mark of the first half until the 11:05 mark of the second half, when Loyola converted three straight 3-pointers to turn a three point deficit into a 43-37 lead with 10:08 left.

The final 3-pointer came from sharp-shooting junior guard Brett Harvey who scored all 13 of his points and made 4-8 field goals in the second half. 

Loyola led 56-49 with 1:11 remaining ? the largest lead of the game for either team ? before the Jaspers rallied.  After Antoine Pearson made the second of two free throws, Brandon Adams and Jamel Ferguson converted back-to-back layups to cut the Greyhounds lead to 56-54 with 27 seconds to go.

Marquis Sullivan made two free throws for Loyola to make it a two possession game with 13 seconds remaining and Manhattan did not score again.  

Manhattan made 19-33 (58%) shots from inside the 3-point arc and controlled a 28-12 advantage in points in the paint.  Seven Jaspers scored five points or more, but Smith was the only player to reach double digits.
