Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (May 4, 2008) ? In the first game, Kristina Walraven hit a two run homerun in the top of the tenth to push Manhattan to a 3-1 victory.  But the Lady Jaspers could not come through with any more heroics for the second game as their season was ended with a 2-0 loss.

The first game was a defensive struggle as both pitchers were keeping it a tight game.  But in the bottom of the third inning, Marist was the first to score and made it a 1-0 game after three innings.  The next two innings proved to be like the first two as they went scoreless.  But the Lady J's put a run up of their own in the top of the sixth.

After Melissa Donnelly led off the inning with a single, Nicole Michel was hit by a pitch to put two runners on.  Lyndzie Phillips then came up and continued her hot hitting with a single to load the bases for Ashley Rampino.  Rampino then singled to tie the game up, 1-1 going into the seventh inning.

Both teams could not come through with a run in seven innings, so then went on to play extra's.  After a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, Walraven hit the go ahead homerun in the top of the tenth inning and the Lady J's held off the Red Foxes for the win.  Donnelly pitched all 10 innings for Manhattan, giving up only one earned run, seven hits and striking out six batters.

Now, if Manhattan could pull out the sweep, they would clinch a spot in the MAAC Championship Tournament.  But the Red Foxes were the first to strike, as Donnelly gave up a two run homerun in the bottom of the third and Marist lead 2-0 after three innings.  But the Lady Jaspers offense could not pull through as they would not score and lose their chances of a playoff berth.

Aside from pitching in consecutive games, Donnelly went 2-6 from the plate scoring a run for Manhattan.  Walraven hit her first home run of the year in the first game and finished the day driving in two runs and scoring one herself.

The Lady Jaspers finish the season 11-33 and 6-11 in conference play.  They have increased their total wins by more than three fold from last year and only look to progress further next season.
