Riverdale, N.Y. (April 30, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Softball team fell to the University at Albany today 4-0 and 7-2 in a non-conference match up. Lyndzie Phillips had a 2-4 performance driving in a run in the second game.
In the first game, the Lady Jaspers could not get much going as they were held hitless the entire game. Albany had a perfect game going into the bottom of the seventh until Kristina Walraven reached base on an error to disrupt the perfect game. The Lady Jaspers would go on to fall 4-0.
In the second game, the Great Danes struck first as they put up four runs in the top of the second inning. The bats were struggling for Manhattan as Albany added two more runs in the top of the third to make it ia 6-0 game. Albany would put up one more in the top of the seventh to make it a 7-0 game, with Manhattan having three outs to stage a comeback.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jaci Churilla lead off the inning with a single and two batters later, Kaitlin Rodriguez added a single of her own to put two runners on with one out for the Lady Jaspers. Kara Cokeley then drew a walk to load the bases with Phillips coming to bat. Phillips hit a line drive single up the middle to score Manhattan's first run of the day.
Down 7-1 with the bases loaded, freshman Nicole Michel drew a walk to chip away at Albany's lead. Jaci Rahey came up with two outs and the bases loaded looking to erase Manhattan's deficit. But Albany's left fielder caught Rahey's fly ball on the warning track, and Manhattan would fall 7-2.
Phillips and Michel both drove in runs for Manhattan on the day with Michel going 1-3 from the plate. Both Kaitlin Rodriguez and Kara Cokeley went 1-2 in the second game.
The Lady Jaspers will return to action tomorrow, Thursday, May 1 where they will travel to take on Stony Brook University. The doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
