Lawrenceville, N.J. (April 20, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Softball Team split in their doubleheader against their MAAC opponent Rider University today.  The Lady Jaspers fell 2-0 in the first game, but Melissa Cascio's 2-3, 3 RBI performance lead Manhattan to an 8-0 victory in five innings.

In the first game, both defenses played strong as the first five innings went scoreless for each team.  After Erika Sullivan pitched 5.0 innings of scoreless ball, the Lady Broncs struck in the bottom of the sixth as she gave up the first run of the game.

As the Lady J's were trailing 1-0 before Allison Smith came in for relief, Rider scored once again to make it a 2-0 ballgame.  Ashley Rampino came in to finish off the inning and give the Lady Jaspers three outs to make something happen.  Manhattan could not muster up a comeback as Rider took the first game.

The second game looked started to look like the first as both teams went scoreless in the inning 1.  But in the top of the second, Lyndzie Phillips lead the inning off with a single as Jaci Rahey sacrificed her over to second base.  Melissa Cascio then hit a double down the line to drive in two runs and put the Lady Jaspers ahead 2-0.

Manhattan did not slow down, as Danielle Just hit a homerun to spark a four run third inning.  Cascio drove in her third RBI of the day as Melissa Donnelly drove in one of her two RBI's on the day to put Manhattan out in front 6-0.

The Lady J's would put up a run in each of the next two innings, on route to their 8-0 victory.  The Manhattan offense was in full boom as Amanda Genovese gave a 2-2 performance from the plate with two runs, alongside Melissa Donnelly's 3-3, two RBI performance.  Kaitlin Rodriguez went 1-1 on the day, as she pinch hit and drove in a run for the Lady Jaspers.

Donnelly pitched all five innings for Manhattan, giving up only one hit while not allowing a run and striking out four batters.

With the split, the Lady Jaspers improve to 3-7 in conference play and 8-25 overall.  The Lady J's will return to action on Wednesday, April 23 as they will travel to take on a single game against St. John's University.  Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
