Bronx, N.Y. (April 11, 2008) ? The Manhattan College softball team fell to local rival Fordham University in doubleheader, 10-4 and 10-0. Devon Gustafson continued her hot hitting as she went 2-3 driving in two runs in the first game.
In the first game, Fordham struck first as they put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. But the Lady Jaspers answered right back in the top of the second as Gustafson drove in her first run of the game, followed by an RBI single by Kara Cokeley to tie the game up, 2-2.
The scoring continued, as the Rams put up four runs in the bottom of the second but Manhattan followed with a run of their own in the top of the third. Gustafson drove in her second RBI of the game in that inning and cut the Lady J's deficit to three as they were down 6-3.
In the fourth, Lyndzie Phillips homered to left center field, but Manhattan still trailed 6-4 going into the bottom of the fourth. But Fordham put up three runs in that same inning and went on to win the game 10-4.
Nicole Michel went 2-4 in the first game as Jaclyn Churilla and Kara Cokeley both put up 1-3 performances. Phillips hit her first homerun of the year as it came to pinch hit.
In the second game, Fordham kept putting up runs as Manhattan could not get their bats going. The game ended after five innings as Melissa Donnelly went 1-2 and Monica Evangelista went 1-1 coming into to pinch hit.
The Lady Jaspers will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 11 as they will travel to take on Saint Peter's College in a conference match-up. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 p.m
