Kissimee, Fl. (March 20, 2008) - After Manhattan College's game against Army was canceled this morning, the Lady Jaspers fell to local rival Columbia University in day 3 of the Rebel Spring Games. Amanda Genovese went 2-3 on the day, while defensively tallying three put outs and two assists.
After two scoreless innings to begin the game, Columbia scored first in the top of the third. But Manhattan answered right back as Danielle Just continued her hot hitting driving in Kaitlin Rodriguez. The Lady Lions then put up two more runs in the top of the fourth and the Lady J's were battling from behind.
In the bottom of the sixth, Melissa Donnelly led off the inning with a single and then stole second. Jaci Rahey then doubled to center as she drove in Donnelly and cut their deficit, 3-2. Lyndzie Phillips then hit a two out double which drove in Kara Cokeley to tie the game going into the seventh and final inning. But Columbia posted three runs in the top of that seventh inning to walk away with the victory.
Ashley Rampino pitched four innings, giving up two earned runs. Donnelly came in to finish the game as she went three innings, giving up three runs and striking out three. Nichole Michel had a team high four assists as Melissa Cascio finished the game with 10 put outs.
The Lady Jaspers continue the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow as they will take on Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 5:00 p.m. contest against the University of Hartford.
