Kissimee, Fl. (March 19, 2008) - In day 2 of the Rebel Spring Games, the Manhattan College Softball team lost to local rival Columbia, 5-1. Freshman Jaci Rahey went 1-3 as she stole home for the Lady J's only run of the game.
The Lady Jaspers had trouble getting their offense going as they could only put up three hits in their first game today against Columbia. After the Lions tacked on four runs in the first, the Lady J's struck in the second as Rahey doubled to center to lead off the game. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Gianna Cirilli pinch ran and stole second base. Her steal allowed Rahey to steal home and Manhattan pulled off the double steal and went down 4-1.
The Lady J's played solid after the first two innings, only giving up one run for the rest of the game. But nobody could spark the Manhattan offense in the loss. Along with Rahey, Kristina Walraven and Melissa Cascio also had a 1-3 performance on the day. On the defensive side, First baseman Cascio tallied nine put outs while shortstop Melissa Donnelly had a game high five assists on the day.
In their win over Wisconsin-Green Bat, Manhattan put up two runs in the first inning as Walraven led the game off with a double. Danielle Just came up and knocked a two run home run. Walraven also scored the winning run of the game as she went 2-3 in the game. Nichole Michel also went 2-3 on the day as Melissa Donnelly got the win. Donnelly pitched all seven innings, giving up only five hits. She also went 1-3 from the plate.
The ladies will look to carry their momentum, tomorrow, Thursday, March 20, as they will take on Army at 11:00 a.m. Soon after that game, the Lady Jaspers will close out their day against Columbia at 3:00 p.m.
