Providence, R.I. (March 15, 2008) ? The men's lacrosse team fell to MAAC opponent Providence College, 12-4 in their first conference game of the year. Brian Wynne notched two goals on the day, scoring consecutively in the third quarter.
At the start of the game, Manhattan trailed 2-0 early in the game. But Will Coursen fired one past the goalie to cut their deficit in half and start the second quarter down 2-1. But it was all Providence in the second as they scored three goals throughout the quarter. At the break, Manhattan was trailing the Friars 5-1.
Looking to climb back in the game, Angelo Marrano scored within the first minute of the third quarter and was looking to spark the Manhattan offense. After another Providence goal, Wynne scored two consecutive goals in under one minute of play to bring the Jaspers back in it. They were trailing 6-4 after Wynne's second goal, but the Friars closed out the third with a goal of their own and went back up 7-4 going into the last quarter of play.
Manhattan could not get any closer as Providence tacked on five more goals in the fourth quarter to walk away with the victory.
Kyle Ochwat led the Jaspers grabbing four groundballs on the day. Goalie John Geagan saved nine shots while also grabbing three ground balls. Wynne finished the day with two goals as Marrano and Coursen joined him as the only Jaspers to score.
The Jaspers will continue MAAC play next week, as they will travel to take on Canisius College on Saturday, March 22. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
