RIVERDALE, N.Y. ?  The Manhattan College men's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the 2008 campaign this afternoon falling to Quinnipiac (3-0) 5-1 in Riverdale. Junior attackman A.J. Alessi's goal with 3:55 remaining in the second quarter proved to be the game winner keeping the Bobcats perfect on the season. Manhattan freshman attackman Michael Llewellyn scored the Jaspers lone goal of the contest.

It proved to be a defensive struggle as the game remained scoreless though the first 23 minutes of action. At the 6:44 mark, Ted Dimond ended the early stalemate with a fast break goal to put Quinnipiac on top.

Less than three minutes later, another Bobcat fast break unraveled resulting in the second goal of the contest. Alessi took a feed on the left side from midfielder Alex Marotto and placed it across goal in the bottom right corner.

Quinnipiac sophomore Zach Dendas connected another with 29 seconds before the half to send the Bobcats into intermission with a 3-0 advantage.

Llewellyn took advantage of an extra man opportunity with 45 seconds remaining in the third quarter to get Manhattan (1-1) on the scoreboard. The Jaspers struggled in man up situations going 1-11 on the afternoon.

Garret Kerr, a sophomore midfielder, added two more goals in the fourth quarter to help Quinnipiac get past the Jaspers.

Manhattan outworked the Bobcats in the groundball battle leading 39-26 in this category.

Junior goalkeeper John Geagan was credited with his first loss of the season. He notched 15 saves over 60 minutes of action in net.

Quinnipiac goaltender Kevin Benzing posted 17 saves on the afternoon and earned the victory.

The Jaspers return to action on Wednesday for its meeting with Sacred Heart. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn.
