RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Stephanie Gartley and Shaylyn Lawrence teamed up for two Purple Eagle goals helping Niagara (10-4-1, 3-2-0 MAAC) defeat the Manhattan women's soccer team (5-6-1, 2-1-1 MAAC) this evening in Niagara Univ., N.Y. Despite outshooting the Purple Eagles 14-12, the Lady Jaspers suffered a 2-0 conference loss, marking their first of the season.
Lawrence helped set up Niagara's first goal of the contest in the 24th minute which came off the foot of Gartley, the Purple Eagles leading scorer. Gartley placed her ninth goal of the season, and eventual game winner just inside the right post.
In the 40th minute, Niagara extended its lead when Chiara Greco chipped a pass into the box for Lawrence. Lawrence settled the ball, and then found the back of the net off a shot from just outside the 18-yard box.
Lady' Jaspers sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Bachowski allowed both goals, and made two saves in the contest. Ashleigh Bowers recorded the shutout with five saves on the evening.
Manhattan continues its road swing on Sunday when the squad travels to Buffalo for a match with Canisius. Kick off is set for noon at Demske Sports Complex.
