RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Manhattan surrendered a two point halftime advantage eventually falling 79-60 to Loyola this afternoon in Riverdale. Junior guard Marquis Sullivan chipped in a game-high 23 points coming off the bench to lead the Greyhounds to their fourth straight victory. Devon Austin and Nick Walsh paced the Jaspers each scoring in double figures.
Over the first 20 minutes of action it proved to be an even battle. Austin drained a fade away 3-pointer just in front of the Loyola bench with just 36 seconds left in the half to send Manhattan into intermission with a 38-36 advantage.
Austin led the Jaspers with 19 points and went 3-6 from beyond the arc over 29 minutes of action.
Poor shooting in the second half hindered the Jaspers attempt to close out the contest. Over this period, Manhattan went 4-14 (28.6%) from 3-point territory and 2-11 (18.2%) from the free-throw line. On the contest, Manhattan was 48.3% (14-29) from the charity stripe.
The Greyhounds slowly pulled away in the second stanza to complete the regular-season sweep with Manhattan. Loyola outrebounded the Jaspers 38-24 and connected on 30-34 (88.2%) free-throw attempts.
Walsh finished with 12 points going 4-7 from the field and 3-5 from 3-point range. It marked the third straight game Walsh knocked down three treys and scored in double-figures.
The Jaspers look to rebound on Wednesday when they square off with Iona at Madison Square Garden. Tip off is slated for 9 p.m.
