WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO DREXEL, 1-0

Philadelphia, Pa. (September 16, 2007)- Manhattan forged a furious rally after falling behind early in the second half, but did not find the back of the net in dropping a 1-0 decision to Drexel University this afternoon.

The two sides played even for the first 45 minutes, with each team forcing the opposing net minder to tally three saves.  Drexel held a slight advantage in shots, 9-7, but neither team cracked the scoreboard.

The Lady Jaspers came out firing in the opening minutes of the second half, taking four shots before the Dragons managed one, but that first Drexel shot, at the 54:06 mark, provided the match's only score, as Athena Yiantsos took a pass from sister Aleka Yiantsos inside the area and put the ball into the net.

At that point, the Lady Jaspers continued to increase the offensive pressure, peppering the Drexel goalkeeper and getting off seven shots to the Dragons' one, but keeper Kaitlin Bond posted six second stanza saves to keep Manhattan at bay.

Alicia DeFino made four saves on the day, and Manhattan held an 18-11 advantage in shots.

Manhattan gets back in action on Wednesday, September 26, traveling to Stony Brook, N.Y. to take on Stony Brook University at 7:00 p.m.
