Riverdale, N.Y. (September 15) ? Manhattan Volleyball lost its first match of the MAAC regular season to Marist College, 3-0.  Junior Sherryta Stokes led the team with 17 kills.

 

The Lady Jaspers came out strong as they kept the first game close.  They found themselves in a four point deficit (17-13) towards the middle of the game.  Manhattan fought back hard and tied the game up, 20-20.  The Red Foxes came through at the end as they clinched the game, 30-28.  In the second game, Manhattan found itself in a hole as they were trailing Marist by 11 points.  The deficit proved to by too much as the Red Foxes took the second game 30-21 and led the match 2-0.  The Lady J's came out roaring in the third game as they took an early lead, 14-3.  Manhattan stayed out in front and dominated the third game as the Lady Jaspers won, 30-13.  The fourth game was a battle as both teams kept it close.  But in the end, Marist pulled away and won the game 30-24 and the match 3-1.

 

Junior Sherryta Stokes led Manhattan with 17 kills and hit .429 on the day while contributing 10 digs.  Senior Ashley Watson anchored the defense with a game high 16 digs.  Alyssa Getzel paced the offense with 34 assists and hit .300 on the day while also contributing 15 digs.

 

The Lady J's will take on Fairfield University tomorrow in their second game of the MAAC regular season.  The game is at 2:00 p.m. and will take place in the Draddy Gym.
