WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS SEASON OPENER, 4-1

Washington, D.C. (August 31, 2007)- In the team's season opener, Manhattan College dropped a 4-1 decision to American University this afternoon at the DC Invitational.  Alicia DeFino tallied six saves for the Lady Jaspers.

American scored twice in a five minute span to take a 2-0 lead after 36 minutes of play before Christine Reina took a pass from rookie Caroline Morse to pull Manhattan to within one, 2-1, at the 57:30 mark.

The deficit remained at one into the last 10 minutes of play, until two late goals by the Eagles provided the final margin.

Manhattan held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2, but was out shot, 15-5.

The Lady Jaspers play their next match in the DC Invitational on Sunday, September 2, taking on Georgetown University at 12 noon.
