Eastchester, N.Y. (April 5, 2007)- Manhattan jumped out to a quick, 3-0, lead, but Iona outscored the Lady Jaspers 13-7 the rest of the way to earn the MAAC victory this afternoon on a cold and windy day at Eastchester Field.  Lauren Civardi tallied team-highs with three goals and five ground balls to pace Manhattan.

Jenny Carman (assisted by Brenna Tinari), Alicia Psillos, and Civardi each found the back of the net once over the game's first 6:40 as Manhattan jumped out to a fast, 3-0, lead.

The Gaels responded with four straight goals over the next 13 minutes to take a 4-3 lead, and looked to carry the momentum into the break, but Civardi took advantage of a free position attempt, scoring the equalizer with 6:11 left in the opening stanza.  The score remained tied as the teams went into the locker room.

Iona came out of the gates to start the second half the same way the Lady Jaspers had in the first 30 minutes, scoring three straight goals to open the final period.  Psillos scored off a pass from Carman before the Gaels completed a 6-1 run to take a 10-5 lead with 11:40 left in the game.

Helen Kerrisk and Tinari scored a goal apiece to cut the deficit to 10-7 with 8:55 remaining, but Iona scored three of the next four goals to open up a 13-8 lead with under three minutes remaining.  Tinari (assisted by Carman) and Jillian McGowan (assisted by Psillos) scored in the final two minutes to provide the final margin.

Ashley Devins recorded seven saves for Manhattan, which gets back in action on Friday, April 6, hosting St. Mary's College at Eastchester High School.  The game is slated for 10:00 a.m.
