FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON TOPS SOFTBALL IN GAME ONE; GAME TWO RAINED OUT

Teaneck, N.J. (April 25, 2007)?Megan Doherty and Lindsay Glidden each drove in two runs, and Ashley Buchanan limited the Lady Jaspers to four hits as Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Manhattan 8-0 in game one of a scheduled doubleheader. With Manhattan leading 3-2 in the second inning of the nightcap, the game was called due to heavy rain.

Manhattan starter Kristin Gelsleichter got through the first inning unharmed, but the Knights took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an unearned run. With Jamie Colvin on base, Doherty singled her to second base. The next batter Jennifer Boldman reached on an error, then advanced to second on a throwing error as Colvin came around to score.

FDU would score a run in each of the next three innings, leading 4-0 heading into the sixth inning. The Knights then broke the game open with back-to-back homeruns, a two-run shot from Glidden, and a solo homerun from Caitlyn Reuter to make the score 7-0. FDU would end the game three batters later when Doherty drove in her second run of the game.

Buchanan scattered four hits over six innings of work, striking out two and walking two, while earning her fourth win of the season.

Manhattan had several opportunities to put runs on the board throughout the contest, but left eight runners on base and multiple runners on base in three different innings.

The Lady Jaspers return to the field tomorrow for a twinbill with Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
