Riverdale, N.Y. (Febraury 4, 2007)?Marist continued its quest for a perfect MAAC season with a 71-51 win over the Lady Jaspers Sunday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium. Meg Dahlman led all scorers with 20 points as the Red Foxes were in control throughout the contest. The win improves Marist's record to 19-4 overall and 12-0 in the MAAC, while Manhattan drops to 7-16 overall and 4-8 in MAAC play.
Rachele Fitz scored on the game's first possession, but Amanda LoCascio, coming off a 10 assist performance against Fairfield, connected from long range to give Manhattan a 3-2 lead. After a free throw from Caitlin Flood, Fitz converted a three-point to play to put Marist in front 5-4, and they would not relinquish the lead the for remainder of the game.
Marist shot 53.8 percent in the first half and 5-10 from long range, helping them to a big first lead.
In the second half, Manhattan outscored Marist 34-29 as Flood, Gabrielle Cottrell, and Vanessa Davison all had big contributions. Davison, who scored a career high 10 points on four of six shooting, had eight points in the second frame. While Cottrell, who was Manhattan's high scorer with 13 points, scored eight after halftime while hitting two three-pointers. Flood, with 11 points, has now reached double figures in 15 of Manhattan's 23 games.
The Lady Jaspers will return to action next Friday as they play the second game of their three game home stand against Fairfield. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
