SOFTBALL DROPS FINAL TWO GAMES OF COUGAR CLASSIC

Charleston, S.C. (February 18, 2007)?The Manhattan College softball team played its final two games of the Cougar Classic this afternoon, dropping games to North Dakota State and to the tournament's hosts, the College of Charleston.

Manhattan kicked off its day against North Dakota State, losing a 6-0 decision to the Bison who received a complete game shutout from pitcher Bekki Rasmussen. The right-hander allowed just three hits and struck out four, while catcher Maryssa McKenzie drove in two runs as the Bison claimed the tournament championship with the win.

In the finale against the College of Charleston, the Cougars came away with a 12-2 win behind three RBI from Jennifer Golden, and two RBI each from Terri Mesko and Christina Mascarenaz. Manhattan's offense came in the bottom of the fourth inning when, with Liz Strein on base, shortstop Jaclyn Churilla smacked a two run homerun.

Manhattan will take the next several weeks off, but will return to action on March 11th for the beginning of the Rebel Spring Games, held in Kissimmee, Fla. The Lady Jaspers will take on FDU-Teaneck in their first game at 3:00 p.m.
