Baltimore, Md. (December 9, 2007)- Loyola raced out to a big lead early, and maintained the lead for the rest of the game as the Greyhounds defeated Manhattan, 77-54, this afternoon at Reitz Arena on the Loyola campus.
The Greyhounds scored the game's first 15 points before a Brandon Adams lay-up with 14:13 left in the opening stanza ended the Jaspers' opening drought. Loyola led by as many as 25 on three occasions in the first half, and held a 19 point, 42-23, lead at the break.
Loyola scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 50-23 lead. Manhattan played the Greyhounds even in the second half (35-31), but never cut the lead to less than 20 points.
Nick Walsh paced the Jasper offense with nine points, all on three pointers. Brandon Adams added eight points and seven rebounds, with five coming on the offensive glass.
Despite shooting just 29.6% (16-54) from the field, Manhattan was proficient from the line, converting 19-24 (79.2%).
The Jaspers break for exams, and return to the hardwood on Sunday, December 16, traveling to Princeton, N.J. to battle the Princeton University Tigers. The game is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
