Riverdale, N.Y. (September 30, 2006)-After Manhattan Volleyball had already squandered three match point opportunities during the afternoon, Whitney Judkins' solo block finally sealed a five-game victory (30-28, 30-22, 27-30, 32-34, 15-13) for the Lady Jaspers over Marist College on Saturday in Draddy Gym.

Judkins, a senior co-captain, was one of the reasons the Lady Jaspers overcame 25 service errors to secure a conference victory over the Red Foxes. Judkins recorded 14 kills and six blocks, while hitting a season-best .393. In addition to stepping up with the match-clinching block, Judkins converted on her only two attack attempts in the deciding fifth game.

Judkins, however, was not the only Lady Jasper to put up big numbers on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore outside hitter Sherryta Stokes registered 16 kills and only two errors in 36 attempts for a .389 hitting percentage. Although not as efficient as Judkins and Stokes, freshman Kandice Watson led Manhattan with a career-high 20 kills to go along with seven digs. Fellow freshman Rita Welsh also recorded double-digits in kills with 10.

One can also credit Manhattan's offensive outburst to the play of sophomore setter Alyssa Getzel, who finished the match with a career-high 60 assists. The setter was also a key part of the Lady Jasper defense and service game. Her 10 digs were second on the team only to Ashley Watson's match-high 27, and Getzel's eight service aces proved to be a new season-high for a Manhattan player on a day that saw 25 points lost to service errors.

Marist's Jaime Kenworthy posted a match-high 27 kills, but she hit only .153, which was tops on the team.

Manhattan resumes MAAC play tomorrow when the Iona College Gaels visit Draddy Gym. The match begins at 2:00 p.m.
