Riverdale, N.Y. (September 21, 2006)-The Fairfield University attack proved to be too much for Manhattan Volleyball on Thursday evening at Draddy Gym. The Stags hit a whopping .396 as a team en route to a three-game victory over the Lady Jaspers in what was Manhattan's MAAC home opener.
Manhattan freshman Kandice Watson keyed the Lady Jasper defense with 12 digs, but it was not enough to disrupt the Stags' attack led by outside hitter Lindsey Lee. Lee posted a match-high 13 kills and hit .455. Fairfield, who won the match by game scores of 30-21, 30-20, and 30-13, had four players hit over the .400 mark.
The Manhattan attack had its best showing in game one with freshman middle Rita Welsh notching three kills on six attempts. Any success the Lady Jaspers experienced, however, was overshadowed by the Stags' .406 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
Sophomore Sherryta Stokes finished tops amongst the Lady J's with nine kills on the night to go with eight digs.
The Lady Jaspers resume MAAC play on Sunday, September 24 in Loudonville, N.Y., where they will take on the defending conference champion Siena College Saints.
