Lawrenceville, N.J. (September 15, 2006)-Four Rider players recorded double-digit kills to spoil the MAAC opener for Manhattan Volleyball, 3-1 (30-19, 29-31, 30-27, 30-26), on Friday night at Alumni Gym.

Sophomore outside hitter Sherryta Stokes notched her first double-double in a Lady Jasper uniform with a team-high 14 kills and 15 digs, but Manhattan's attack lacked efficiency. The Lady Jaspers hit just .072 as a team.

With the match even at one game apiece, Manhattan made a bid to take control of the match with its best single-game hitting percentage of the contest at .200, but Rider countered by hitting .300, its best total of the four games.

Despite the defeat, freshman middle Rita Welsh continues to be a bright spot for Manhattan. Welsh recorded 12 kills and committed only two errors for a .400 attack percentage. With two solo blocks on the night, Welsh added to her team lead in the category.

Megan Smith, Brittany Hayes, Katrina Stehle and Lacey Johnson all notched at least 11 kills with Smith leading all players at 15.

Manhattan (2-9, 0-1 MAAC) will have another chance to pick up a conference victory tomorrow at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. The match begins at 6:00 p.m.
