Philadelphia, Pa. (September 10, 2006)- Manhattan was forced to play a man down for over 80 minutes, but
Sean Morin and the Jaspers overcame that deficit to post a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's University this afternoon in the Philadelphia Soccer Classic played at Philadelphia University. Morin tallied his first two collegiate tallies, including the game-winner with 26 seconds remaining as Manhattan wins its second game in its last three to improve to 2-5-0 on the season.
Morin got the Jaspers on the board first, taking a pass from
Eric Demaio and beating SJU keeper Joe Bodnar 6:30 into the game. The game seemed like it might not go Manhattan's way under two minutes later, as Demaio was sent off after making a goal (and potentially game) saving tackle. With the red card, the Jaspers played just 10 players the rest of the game.
Despite playing with 10 players, Manhattan still maintained the 1-0 lead through halftime and deep into the second half, before the Hawks finally solved Jasper keeper
John Ciano at the 83:08 mark, knotting the score at 1-1/
Manhattan would not be denied, and completed a very promising week on a high note as Morin converted his second goal of the day to give Manhattan the lead and the win.
Both Morin and senior
Tommy Lenhardt were named to the All-Tournament team for their fine play over the weekend.
Ciano made five saves in net for his second win of the week.
Manhattan gets back in action on Sunday, September 17, making the short subway ride to Columbia University to take on the Lions in a game slated to being at 12 noon.
