Washington, D.C. (September 1, 2006)--In its first of three matches at the American Volleyball Classic, Manhattan fell to the New Jersey Institute of Technology in three games (30-19, 30-25, 30-23) on Friday evening on the campus of American University. The Lady Jaspers were unable to neutralize Highlander outside hitters Aggie Pregowski and Tasha Hornstein.

Pregowski and Hornstein combined for 24 kills and a .315 hitting percentage to hand Manhattan its fifth consecutive loss.

Senior co-captain Whitney Judkins led the Lady Jaspers with nine kills and hit a season-high .316. Manhattan produced its most efficient offensive effort on the young season with a .170 hitting percentage, but NJIT hit .284 for the match.

Another area where the Lady Jaspers failed to help themselves was the service game. Manhattan erred 14 times while serving, which doubled their total number of aces for the match. The Highlanders, however, connected on 12 service aces, erring only nine times.

The Lady Jaspers continue play at American tomorrow afternoon when they square off against Howard University at 1:00 p.m.
