Lawrenceville, N.J. (April 9, 2006)- Manhattan swept a MAAC doubleheader this afternoon at Rider, taking game one, 5-3, on the strength of a Michelle Gutierrez home run, before riding a four RBI performance from Keira Fox to a 4-3 win in the nightcap. The Lady Jaspers improve to 15-13, 2-2 in MAAC play, while the Broncs fall to 12-15, 1-5 in MAAC play.

The phrase, "Never give up" holds true after the Lady Jasper's clinch two come from behind wins today against Rider. In the first game, senior Jill Medea(10-7) had a stellar performance pitching another complete game for Manhattan holding the Broncs to three runs. In the seventh inning, down(3-2) Fox led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Freshman Danielle Just delivered with an RBI double, evening the score at three.Gutierrez came off the bench to pinch hit and she belted her first career homerun as a Lady Jasper, adding two more on the board. Medea and her defense closed the door in the bottom of the seventh, beating Rider 5-3.

Game two of the double header proved to be very similar to game one in that it was neck and neck til the top of the seventh. Fox was the backbone of the offense with two hits and all four RBI's. The score was(3-3) in the top of the seventh when junior Liz Strein(.373) ripped her 28th hit of the season, kick starting the offense. Strein advanced to third on two errors and Fox had the sac fly, scoring Strein and giving the Lady Jaspers the lead. Junior pitcher Kristin Gelsleichter(3-3)had a solid outting scattering four hits and three runs for Manhattan. Junior Elizabeth Pennino shut the door in the bottom of the seventh, capturing the 4-3 win over Rider and earning the MAAC sweep.

Manhattan faces MAAC rival Iona College, Monday 3:00p.m. at Gaelic Park.
