Riverdale, N.Y. (April 22, 2006)- On a cold and miserable April morning, Fairfield made the temperature seem just a little colder at Gaelic Park, as the Stags downed Manhattan, 13-6, on Senior Day for the Lady Jaspers. Manhattan falls to 6-8 overall, and 3-3 in MAAC play, while Fairfield improves to 6-9, 4-2 in MAAC play. The Lady Jaspers must now win in the regular season finale at Marist to ensure a MAAC Playoff berth.

The Stags scored the first three goals of the game over the first five minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Beth Loffredo, who led all scorers with three goals and three assists, had two goals during the early run.

Manhattan would respond with two goals of its own, as Jenny Carman and Molly Pheterson each recorded a tally to pull the Lady Jaspers within one, 3-2, with 21:02 left in the half.

After a Rebecca White goal made the score 4-2 Fairfield, the Lady Jaspers again showed a resiliency, as Pheterson and Lauren Civardi tallied markers to pull Manhattan even at 4-4 with 8:53 to go in the opening stanza.

Fairfield would answer right back though, retaking the lead just 29 seconds later, and scoring the last goal of the first half and the first goal of the second half to take a 7-4 lead.

After Manhattan scored twice to pull with one yet again, 7-6, with the goals coming from Brenna Tinari and Carman, the Stags put the game away by scoring the last six goals of the game.

Ashley Devins made eight saves for Manhattan.

The Lady Jaspers and Marist play Sunday, April 23, at 1:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
