Riverdale, N.Y. (April 21, 2006)- The Lady Jaspers fell to MAAC rival Fairfield University today at Gaelic Park. Manhattan's offense was on track in the first game of the double header, but Fairfield came out on top with an 8-7 win. The second game was called to darkness after five innings with Manhattan dropping the 10-3 decision after giving up six runs in the fourth inning.
In the first game, junior Stefanie Gozdziewski went 3-4, senior Kiera Fox had her 9th home run of the season, going 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Freshman Lyndzie Phillips had a double and two RBI's and junior Liz Strein, freshman Danielle Just and senior Tina Buyea each added an RBI. Junior pitcher Liz Pennino relieved senior Jill Medea (12-9) in the fifth inning. Pennino held Fairfield scoreless and hitless in three innings of work, but the Lady Jasper's could not cash in.
In the night cap, Manhattan scored their only runs of the game in the bottom of the second. Buyea hit a single to left field scoring Fox and then Strein had single up the middle, giving Manhattan two more runs. The Lady Stags offense got fired up in the top of the fourth when they scored six runs. Manhattan missed out on its final two at-bats due the umpires' decision to end the game.
Manhattan's next games are this coming Sunday at Siena in a MAAC double header at 1p.m.
