Riverdale, N.Y. (April 2, 2006)- Manhattan overcame a sluggish first half to force overtime, but could never get the lead, dropping a 12-11 overtime decision to Canisius this morning at Gaelic Park. The Lady Jaspers fall to 3-5, 1-1 in MAAC play, while the Golden Griffs raise their record to 7-5, 2-0 in MAAC play.

Canisius carried play for much of the first half, and held a 3-2 lead with 13 minutes left in the half before embarking on a 6-0 run to open up a 9-2 lead with 3:27 left before halftime. Manhattan scored the final two goals of the opening stanza to go into the break down, 9-4.

As the team's traded sides after the intermission, it seemed as if the Lady Jaspers grabbed the aggressiveness away from Canisius, scoring five of the first six goals to pull within one, 10-9, with 15:41 left. After a Golden Griffin tally with 13:10 left, Manhattan was finally able to draw even, as Alicia Psillos and Jenny Carman each scored to knot the score at 11-11 with 5:15 left in regulation. Manhattan managed the only shot on net the rest of regulation, but Canisius netminder Rasheeda Brenton came up with a big save on a free position shot.

In the overtime, the Golden Griffs won the draw and immediately found the back of the net, and spent the rest of the overtime period holding off a furious Lady Jasper rally to earn the win.

Molly Pheterson paced the Manhattan attack with three goals, while Carman, Brenna Tinari, and Lauren Civardi each tallied two.

Ashley Devins made eight saves for the Lady Jaspers, who get back in to action on Saturday, April 8, traveling to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on MAAC foe LeMoyne at 12 noon.
