Baltimore, Md. (March 4, 2006)- Despite two more goals from Brenna Tinari and 16 saves from Ashley Devins, Manhattan could not stop a potent UMBC offense, dropping a 15-4 decision to the Retrievers tonight at UMBC Stadium.
Jenny Carman put Manhattan on the board early in the game, scoring an unassisted tally to knot the score at 1-1 at the 23:20 mark of the opening half.
Ten minutes later, Tinari scored her first marker of the game to bring the Lady Jaspers to within two, 4-2, at the 13:50 mark.
UMBC would run off three straight tallies before Tinari scored her second unassisted goal of the night to pull the Lady Jaspers to within four, 7-3, 2:42 before the intermission.
The Retrievers would score the last two goals of the first half and the first six of the second to open up a large margin.
Jillian McGowan scored off a free position shot with 5:09 remaining to provide the final margin.
Manhattan was outshot 22-4 in the second half and was on the wrong end of an 18-3 count for draw controls.
Devins added a team-high six groundballs to go along with her 16 saves. Carman added five groundballs to her one goal.
The Lady Jaspers get back in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 5, continuing their visit to the nation's capital, taking on Howard University in Washington, D.C. at 1:00 p.m.
