Riverdale, N.Y. (December 15, 2006)?The Lady Jaspers travel up to Burlington, Vermont this weekend for a non-conference match-up with the Catamounts. Sunday's game is the third game of a five game road trip. Manhattan is 1-1 on the trip, beating Siena 52-42 and losing to Marist.
Today's Game: The Lady Jaspers and Catamounts meet this afternoon in just the second meeting all-time between the two programs. Manhattan comes in at 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the MAAC after defeating Siena last Friday, then suffering a tough loss to Marist, 70-30. The Catamounts come in at 6-2, having won two games in a row and six of seven overall.
Last Time Out: The Lady Jaspers were soundly beaten by Marist 70-30 last Sunday at the McCann Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Red Foxes jumped out to a 7-0 lead and did not look back. Marist led 28-14 at halftime, then knocked down 10 of 15 shots to begin the first half, opening up an insurmountable lead. Marist shot 45 percent for the game and a scorching 57 percent in the second half.
On the Horizon: This afternoon's game is Manhattan third game of a five game road trip, their longest of the season. Following this afternoon's game, Manhattan finishes their road trip against two Big East schools, Marquette University and Villanova University.
Scouting Vermont: The Catamounts come in at 7-2 and have won six of seven games. Vermont's signature win came on November 25th beating a ranked Boston College team 56-48. Vermont features the last four America East Rookies of the Week, Sofia Iwobi, who won the award for the week ending December 10th for scoring 14 points on six of ten shooting in 17 minutes, helping Vermont defeat Colgate 84-53. Iwobi joins teammates Courtnay Pilypaitis, who has won the award twice and May Kotsopoulos.
Series History: Today's game is just the second meeting all-time between the two programs. Vermont won the first meeting 66-54 back on December 1st, 1990.
One More To Go: With one more three pointer, junior Gabrielle Cottrell will be all alone in fourth place on Manhattan's all-time three point field goals made list. Cottrell currently has 81 made threes, which ties her with Wanda Camps ?98. However, Cottrell has quite a ways to go to catch the all-time leader, Tiffany Schettig who made 246 in her four years in Riverdale.
