Fairfield, Conn. (November 4, 2006)-After winning the second game of the match with an effective attack, Manhattan Volleyball saw its offense short-circuit in the final two games of a 3-1 loss at Fairfield University, who clinched the MAAC Regular Season Championship and moved to 16-0 in league play with the victory.

Manhattan sophomore Sherryta Stokes managed a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Lindsey Lee and Kelly Oliver accomplished the feat for Fairfield. Oliver did the most damage of any player on the offensive side, registering 17 kills and hitting an extremely efficient .429.

The Lady Jasper offense produced its best effort in the second game of the match by converting at an attack rate of .231, but went on to commit 20 errors during games three and four. The Fairfield defense also contributed to Manhattan's offensive woes as Barbie Thistle and Brandi Higa joined Lee and Oliver with double-digit digs. Thistle, the setter, also added eight kills.

Manhattan junior Ashley Watson, who has been named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the past two weeks, led all players with 20 digs. Now with 442 digs on the season, Watson is eight digs shy of the 1,000 mark for her career and only 30 short of equaling Manhattan's single season record.

The Lady Jaspers host their final home match of the season on Sunday, November 5 when they host Loyola College at 2:00 p.m. Co-captains Whitney Judkins and Meghan Plunkett, the squads two seniors will be honored prior to their final match in Draddy Gym.
