Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (November 12, 2006)?Manhattan Volleyball fell to an inspired Marist College team in three games (30-26, 30-26, 30-24) on what was Senior Day for the Red Foxes at the McCann Center. In the final regular season match for both teams, Marist senior Jaime Kenworthy recorded 20 kills and 16 digs to spearhead the victory and force a spilt of the season series with Manhattan, which finishes its MAAC schedule at 9-9.
The Lady Jaspers, who got the best of Marist during an earlier meeting at Draddy Gym, have not seen the last of the Red Foxes. As the fourth seed in next week's ten-team MAAC Tournament, the Lady Jaspers will take on the No. 5 Red Foxes, who were 8-10 in league play, in a quarterfinal match. Both teams bypass an opening round match by finishing amongst the top six in the conference standings.
Manhattan senior Whitney Judkins turned in a more than adequate offensive performance, but she could not completely upstage her senior counterpart Kenworthy. Judkins connected on 11 kills and hit an efficient .346, while also accumulating four blocks. Kenworthy, however, hit .385.
Sophomore Rita Welsh wound up leading the Lady Jaspers in kills with 12, but the sophomore middle hitter did not finish with one of her best hitting percentages. As a team, Manhattan was out hit by Marist .205 to .108.
The MAAC Volleyball Championship is scheduled to run from Thursday, November 16 through Saturday, November 18 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. Check GoJaspers.com for updates from the Sunshine State.
