Niagara University, N.Y. (October 7, 2006)-Niagara University ended Manhattan Volleyball's three-match win streak by downing the Lady Jaspers in four games (30-24, 30-23, 23-30, 30-27) on Saturday afternoon in Western New York.

Sophomore Sherryta Stokes and freshman Kandice Watson combined for 32 kills, but Manhattan hit just .164 as a team. Stokes, who hit .217 for the match, notched a double-double with 17 kills and 14 digs.

Lady Jaspers Rita Welsh and Meghan Plunkett each connected for eight kills, but it was not enough to counter Niagara's attack. The Purple Eagles had three players with double-digit kills led by Nicole Piette's 17. Piette, who also had four blocks, hit a match-high .400.

The loss drops Manhattan to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in MAAC play. Entering the match, the Lady Jaspers were playing some of their best volleyball of the season, having won MAAC matches over Iona College and Marist College last weekend and knocking off Northeast Conference member Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday.

Manhattan will complete its Buffalo swing tomorrow afternoon at MAAC rival Canisius College. The match begins at 2:00 p.m.
