New Rochelle, N.Y. (October 15, 2006)-Senior Katie Kuntz broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute to help Manhattan knock off Iona 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The senior co-captain's team leading ninth goal of the season was all Manhattan (10-5-1; 2-3-1) would need for its third win in four games.

With the game deadlocked, sophomore back Brittany Duhamel fed a long pass that was headed in by Kuntz past Iona keeper Suzanne Baldissard. The assist was Duhamel's second of the season.

Freshman goalie Caitlin Trupiano and the Lady Jasper defense then held firm the rest of the way as Iona came up empty in its search for the equalizer.

The Lady Jaspers pressured the Gaels' defense in the first half, taking six shots, three of which required saves from Baldissard. For the game, Manhattan held a 12-9 advantage in shots. Senior Christine Abrams led Manhattan with three shots, while sophomore Caitlin Newkirk and freshmen Courtney McMahon and Amanda Fischer each had two.

Manhattan has now finished up the road portion of its schedule, and will play their final three games of the regular season at Gaelic Park as they push for a spot in the MAAC tournament. Next up for the Lady Jaspers is a date with Saint Peter's College. The action kicks off Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
