Riverdale, N.Y. (January 20, 2006)- Manhattan trailed by 18, 23-5, just eight minutes into the game, but roared back to win going away, posting a 78-71 win over Canisius tonight at Draddy Gym. The win boosts the Jaspers record to 11-5, 7-1 in MAAC play and keeps them tied atop the MAAC standings. Canisius falls to 4-12, 3-5 in MAAC play.

Cold shooting plagued the Jaspers in the early going, missing their first six shots, as the Golden Griffs scored the first eight points of the game, and 23 of the first 28. Manhattan began to slowly chip away at the lead, cutting the lead to under 10 with five minutes to go in the half and drawing to within three, 33-30, on a Jason Wingate three with 49 ticks remaining, but Joe Young was able to drain a half court shot to provide a six point advantage, 36-30, at the break.

Canisius was able to keep the Jaspers at bay, maintaining the lead until, leading by six, 60-54, with eight minutes left, Manhattan used a 8-0 run, capped by a Kenny Minor three pointer from the right arc to give the Jaspers their first lead of the game, 62-60, with 6:08 remaining. After two ties and one lead change, Manhattan took the lead for good following a three pointer from Devon Austin with just under four minutes to play. The Jaspers pushed the lead to four following two Wingate free throws, with 2:27 to play, and did not allow the Griffs to get any closer than three the rest of the way in winning their eighth straight at home vs. Canisius.

Arturo Dubois led all scorers with 18 points, adding nine rebounds and a game-high five blocks. CJ Anderson tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while handing out a game-high six assists. Wingate added 14 points, including numerous big shots.

Kevin Downey led three Canisius players in double figures with 16 points.

Manhattan begins a three game road swing on Tuesday, January 24, traveling to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider. The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
