Riverdale, NY (May 8, 2005)- Manhattan's Jennifer McCracken singled home Liz Strein with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Lady Jaspers a 1-0 win in the first of two MAAC games this afternoon at Gaelic Park. Marist posted a 5-0 win in game two. Manhattan's record is now 21-22, 8-6 in MAAC play, while the Red Foxes are now 22-21, 8-6 in MAAC play. The four Manhattan seniors were honored before the game.
In the opener, Marist starter Megan Rigos held the Lady Jaspers hitless until the seventh inning, but Manhattan starter Jill Medea allowed just three hits over the same span, as the teams went scoreless over the first seven innings, sending the game into extra frames.
In the bottom of the 11th, Strein led off the inning with a bunt single. Strein stole second, before, with one out, McCracken sent the ball to the right centerfield gap, plating Strein with the winning run.
Medea picked up her 16th win, scattering four hits while striking out 12. Rigos allowed just one run on four hits, striking out 10.
In the second game, Marist plated a run in the top of the first to take a quick 1-0 lead, before adding a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth on the way to a 5-0 win.
Rigos picked up her 18th win, allowing just two hits.
Manhattan concludes the regular season with a MAAC double header with Siena Sunday, May 8 at 9:00 a.m. If the Lady Jaspers take both games, they will clinch a spot in next weekend's MAAC playoffs.
