GAME 2 BOXSCORE
Buffalo, NY (May 2, 2005)- Despite two Kiera Fox homers in the second game, Manhattan dropped both ends of its MAAC double header to Canisius this afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex on the Golden Griff's campus. The Lady Jaspers fall to 20-20, 7-5 in MAAC play.
In the opener, Canisius scored twice in the first, and added a single run in the third, two more in the fourth, and a sixth run in the fifth before Manhattan finally cracked the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the sixth.
In the sixth, Deirdre Langan brought home Kerry Cook and Liz Strein, who had drawn back-to-back walks to open the inning, with a two-RBI double to right center. The Lady Jaspers would not be able to get any closer, and the Griffs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin.
In the nightcap, Canisius again scored first, manufacturing a run in the bottom of the first, before Fox led off the top of the second with a solo blast to left center to knot the score at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Griffs rallied for two runs to take a 3-1 lead before Fox cut the lead in half with her MAAC leading 15th home run of the season, a solo shot down the left field line with one out, but Manhattan could not score the equalizer, falling 3-2.
Manhattan is currently 20-18, 7-4 in MAAC play and return to action on Thursday, May 5, when the Lady Jaspers host Bronx rival Fordham for a double header at Gaelic Park. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
