New York, NY (April 7, 2005)- Jill Medea threw a four-hit, complete-game shutout to lead Manhattan to a 1-0 win over Columbia in the first game of a double header this afternoon at the Columbia Softball Complex. The Lady Jaspers fell, 4-0, in the nightcap.
Manhattan scored the game's lone run in the top of the third. Tina Buyea led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Margaret LaFex sacrificed Buyea to second. After a flyout, Liz Strein advanced Buyea to third with a bunt single, and Buyea came around to score on an error by the Columbia third baseman.
Medea scattered four hits and tallied two strikouts to pick up her seventh win on the year. Strein and Deirdre Langan each went 1-3 to pace the Lady Jaspers.
In the nightcap, Columbia scored three times in the bottom of the first and one more in the bottom of the third.
Medea went the first three innings, allowing all four runs. Elizabeth Peninno went the final three, allowing just one hit.
Erika Kostik went 2-2 for Manhattan, while Jen McCracken and Kiera Fox each tallied one hit.
Manhattan will play its home opener this Saturday, hosting the Saint Joseph's Hawks for a twin bill at Gaelic Park. The first game is slated for 1:00 p.m.
