West Long Branch, NJ (April 6, 2005)- A two-run game-ending home run gave Monmouth a 3-2 win in the first game of a double header this afternoon at MU Softball Park, and Monmouth took the second game, 10-5, in six innings, dropping Manhattan to 8-10 on the season. Junior Kiera Fox went 3-4 on the day, with a homer and two RBI to pace the Lady Jaspers.
In the first game, Monmouth got on the board in the bottom of the second, plating a run on a triple, with the batter coming home on an error.
Manhattan took the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth, as Marina Ysaac doubled home Deirdre Langan and Fox to give the Lady Jaspers a 2-1 lead.
Unfortunately, Monmouth's Wilson connected on a game-ending two-run homer to hand Manhattan the loss.
In game two, Monmouth took an early, 1-0, lead with a run in the bottom of the first before Manhattan plated three in the top of the second on a Fox sacrifice fly and back-to-back RBI singles from Kerry Cook and Liz Strein. However Monmouth scored three of its own in the bottom of the frame to push the lead back to three, 4-1, after two innings.
Fox homered in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-2, but Monmouth tallied six markers in the bottom of the fifth to blow the game open. The Lady Jaspers got one back in the top of the sixth on an RBI triple off the bat of Margaret LaFex to provide the final margin, as the game was called in the middle of the sixth due to darkness.
